Dr. Blair is the Director of Epidemiology and Clinical Applications and Director of Research at The Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research in Dallas, and also serves as Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology in the Schools of Public Health at the University of South Carolina and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

Dr. Blair is President of the American College of Sports Medicine, past-President of the American College of Kinesiology and Physical Education, and current Fellow in the American College of Epidemiology as well as an active member of several other professional societies.

His research focuses on the associations between lifestyle and health, with a specific emphasis on exercise, physical fitness, body composition, and chronic disease. He has published more than 190 papers and chapters in the scientific literature and has received numerous honor awards for his work. He currently serves on the editorial boards of many scientific publications, and is the Senior Scientific Editor for the Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health. Dr. Blair has authored/co-authored several books on physical fitness including, Fitness After 50, which focuses on how older men and women can increase their physical activity to improve their health and function.
